Yes, you read that right – it is possible! You can take your wardrobe from one season to the next without spending your entire paycheck on your seasonal top-up. Don’t get me wrong, I love shopping and finding those unique, stand-out pieces, but I’m over buying something for the sake of it.
There are so many ways to innovate with pieces you already have – the key is styling. You can totally transform a piece with just a little more thought, just think on your feet a little more! You can change the fit, the vibe and the feel of something by giving thought to your outfits and getting experimental. Isn’t that just the whole point of fashion? Plus, you’ll have fun!
Now you’re not a trend-follower but a trend-setter, finding your own ways to style your outfits will give you your own fashion identity. However, if you’re stuck for inspiration, here are just some of our favorite styling tips to get you on your way.
1. Back To Front Blouses
Via Mis Papelicos
This may make your mind completely boggle but this actually works – it is the perfect compromise between buttoning your shirt up to the top for strict Victorian vibes and having it unbuttoned in a sexy businesswoman kinda way. Wearing your blouse back to front and unbuttoning shows a bit of flesh, still makes you feel sexy but also adds a modern twist to the essential shirt. Tucking it into a pair of casual mom jeans just creates the perfect edge!
2. The Half-Tuck
Via Who What Wear UK
Tucking in a shirt is an art form in itself! Getting that balance right between frumpy and goodie two shoes is difficult, but the half-tuck just brings your outfit together. Inspired by Fashion Week street style, the half-tuck allows you to experiment with the androgynous trend all whilst still being feminine. Also – it’s so much easier if you’re on the go, because don’t you just hate it when your whole creased shirt comes untucked? Not a pretty sight!
3. The Single Cuff
Via Style Wile
Before the double cuff did anyone even think about the single cuff? Long gone are the days where this was deemed embarrassing and lame and now everyone’s at it! In our opinion – the higher the better! It just makes your outfit a little more badass and cool, as well as adding texture to your outfit, which leads me to my next point…
4. Play With Texture
Via Fashion Agony
Sequins with faux fur? Lurex with velvet? What seem like unlikely concoctions elevate your wardrobe and make it look more expensive than it actually is. Even just wearing knitwear with your favorite metallic midi skirt can transform your style. Also, all the best street style looks are those who experiment with textures and layers – so if there is one tip we can take from extravagant pap photos, this is it!
5. Show Your Sleeves
Now it’s (almost) winter, it’s the perfect time to get your knitwear collection out and show those sleeves. I love seeing chunky knits peeping out of sporty bomber jackets or sharp, tailored blazers. Again, this adds textures but it also makes your sweater seem cool, young and playful, because yes – you can reinvent knitwear!
