Backstage of She Is Rebel

We think the real backstage of a fashion brand must exhibit more than just fancy photo-shooting moments. Here is how we make this happen at She Is Rebel.

She Is Rebel principles

We are dedicated to creating fashion pieces where style, value and sustainability come together in perfect harmony. To ensure this, we infuse green measures into every step of the making from sourcing materials to shipping.

Backstage of She Is Rebel

We are meticulous about fabric and fit. We start with how women will feel when they put on a She Is Rebel piece, then sample each style on different body types to ensure a perfect fit. Each piece is made with well thought out proportions to hug female figure.

We partner up directly with factories in Turkey. All our partners are dedicated to creating products with superior craftsmanship and quality for decades. They are certified by international institutions for their sustainable and ethical practices. By eliminating middlemen, third-party suppliers and wholesalers, we reduce our manufacturing cost and pass these cost savings onto you. Business communities call this direct-to-consumer, but you can call win-win.

Fabric glossary

All our fabric producers are in Turkey and OEKO-TEX certified. In other words, there is no harmful substance in any stage of processing. Beside being equipped with latest technologies, our fabric producers maintain strict environmental and human health standards.

One of our partners in Turkey is the first vegan fabric producer of the world (certified as Vegan V-label). They won some serious awards for their sustainable and environmentally friendly efforts.

To save you from Googling: Vegan textile process has no animal product from raw materials to finished goods, hence no animal protein contamination to your skin. Fibers, chemicals, dyestuff and other solvents are specially selected and processed in a new environmentally responsible production technique. In other words, vegan fabrics are cruelty-free, free of protein, biodegradable (within 3 months under the right conditions) and gentle in the environment.

We are also engaged with a network of trusted fabric suppliers in Turkey, who notify us whenever any recycled or dead-stock fabrics drop. This comes with two awesome side effects: Minimizing our environmental footprint and allowing us to make unique pieces in a limited amount.

In case you feel a little scientific, here are some more technical info about our fabrics.

TENCEL™ Lyocell:

Tencel is one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics which is regenerated from wood cellulose from sustainably grown forests. (largely eucalyptus trees) Tencel is treated in a closed loop process in which solvents are recycled with a recovery rate of 99.5%. The tiny amount of remaining emissions is decomposed in biological purification plants.

Tencel is soft, durable, breathable. Garments made of Tencel are also less prone to shrinking, wrinkling and bacteria. Many say Tencel is the holy grail of all fabrics. We couldn't agree more.

Oh, by the way, we are an official partner of Lenzing, a cool way of saying our Tencel-based pieces are certified.

Cupro:

Cupro is a regenerated cellulose fabric made from cotton waste, meaning 100% plant-based and biodegradable. It’s produced in a closed loop which means the chemicals used can be extracted afterwards and the water can be reused.

Cupro keeps you cool in summer, warm in winter. It is lightweight and drapes beautifully. Clothes made of cupro have smooth hand feel and deep color with better moisture control, antistatic effect and supple touch.

Rayon:

Rayon is the first man-made fibre as a substitute for silk. It is composed of regenerated and purified cellulose derived from sources such as wood and agricultural products. Rayon has several types such as viscose, modal and lyocell. Each of them goes through different manufacturing processes, the properties of the finished product differ.

Many characteristics of rayon are similar to cotton. It is also known with its high-performing and quality nature as well as silky feel and beautiful drape. Viscose and rayon are usually used as synonyms.

Viscose:

Viscose is derived from the cellulose or wood pulp from regenerative trees such as eucalyptus, beech and pine, as well as plants such as bamboo, soy and sugar cane. As a plant-based fibre, viscose is not toxic or polluting, but its manufacturing process can be. We only source viscose whose manufacturing is certified as eco-friendly.

Viscose is a more durable and animal-friendly alternative to silk.

Linen:

Linen is an ancient sustainable fabric made from the stem of the flax plant. It requires way less water to grow compared to traditional cotton.

Linen warms you in winter and cools you in the warmer months. Linen clothing is breathable and naturally moth resistant. It gets stronger with every wash.

Organic cotton:

To get the better of cotton, organic cotton is grown by removing the pesticides and other chemicals. It is a natural, renewable and biodegradable fibre. It also has less impact on both environment and workers. We source only GOTS certified organic cotton from Turkey. Good to note the cultivation of GM (genetically modified) cotton is forbidden in Turkey.

Cotton is a body-friendly fabric with its very breathable, absorbent, comfortable characteristics.

Wool:

Our wool fabric is produced by wools obtained from the tailpiece of the unshaved sheep, known as 'mulesing free wool'. This is certified under the 'Animal Welfare' product range.

Wool feels natural, drapes well and returns to its natural shape thanks to its elastic character.

Recycled/dead-stock fabrics:

We buy surplus fabrics directly from producers and source recycled fabrics that are recovered from plastic bottles, dead-stock or other textiles (mostly polyester). Surplus and recycled fabrics save natural resources and give second chance to textiles instead of ending in a landfill.

We have to get quite creative to design with these kind of fabrics as we have no control over its making in the first place. This is a cool factor for fashion-lovers like us.

Take more than just our word. Here are some certifications from our fabric suppliers:

Factories

We are committed to designing and delivering beautiful and high-quality apparel made with sustainable manufacturing practices. To achieve this, we work with family-run factories in Turkey who share a common vision of sustainability, quality and social responsibility.

While traditional fashion brands work around the seasonal fashion calendar and produce collections 12-18 months ahead, we create our styles inspired by what you want to wear now and bring them from sketch to reality within 8-10 weeks.

Backstage of She Is Rebel, factories

From the arrival of raw materials till packaging final products, our factories perform multiple quality checks against high quality standards. Our partner factories possess international certifications by Control Union and ISO for providing consistently good-quality products and services as well as the best possible working conditions and workplace health and safety, according to international standards.

Packaging and other supplies

We strive to find and use supplies that are made from responsible sources. Our clothing labels are made from recycled fabrics. Our garment packaging bags are 100% plastic-free and compostable which is made of corn starch.

Backstage of She Is Rebel

All our paper-based packagings are chosen carefully and recyclable, which are made from sustainably forested papers or recycled materials. We also use email invoicing for both online and offline shopping to save paper.

Shipping

We think unboxing experience is overrated (and not so sustainable). You keep the product, not the packaging. No biggie.

Backstage of She Is Rebel

We work with our local transportation service provider that is certified as clean and ships carbon neutral. We use minimum packaging so that the reduced weight and size require less energy (and cost), hence less carbon footprint. How smart.

Ecommerce and pop-up store

We are exclusively available in our own channels - aka sheisrebel.com and our own pop-ups. This allows us to meet you directly and understand your style wishes which we greatly consider when designing our pieces.

Backstage of She Is Rebel, women's clothing brand

We maintain a user-friendly web-site with optimized packaging, shipping and return processes. According to a university research, online retail uses 30% less energy than traditional retail operations. High five to us. While the online shop is our core channel, we host responsible pop-ups in various cities to make your shopping decisions easier.

Community

As Winston Churchill nicely said, 'We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.'

Backstage of She Is Rebel, women's clothing brand

We think education is the first step to learn how to make a life. We up-cycle our textile wastes and donate all proceeds (we mean 100%) to girls education. We also donate unworn clothing we collect (in excellent conditions) to the school girls aged between 7-21 in Turkey. This is close to our heart as our Founder owes her today's success to the scholarships she received during her education.

As we grow, we expand our donation scope and amount. Nurturing our future generations is another good reason for us to work hard.

We're flattered by your interest in getting to know us closer!
